Any one who knows me too well will tell you that I have a “healthy obsession” with Taiye Selasi. There’s something about her that’s refreshing. Different. Bold. Deep. Daring.
Imagine my joy when she shared this beautiful caption on Instagram. LOVE IS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL THING! I wish her nothing but MORE LOVE!
This man. Moved from Berlin (where he’d lived for 35 years) to Lisbon (where he knew no one) to co-create the life of our dreams. Amazing artist, dedicated meditator, gluten-free/meat-free chef extraordinaire, incredible father to a 14-year-old daughter, believer in God and in life and in love. If you’d told me when I was 15 — or 30 for that matter — that my ride or die would be a blond East German I’d have chortled. For many years my ‘ideal man’ was a male me: an overachiever with African origins + immigrant values. I resented the expectation that, as an educated brown woman, I would end up with a white partner. NOT I! I was, of course, using in my thinking the terms I decry in my writing: black, white, color of skin made more relevant than content of character. SILLY ME. Someone once said: ask God for the partner you need, not the one you want. I requested Idris Elba. I received Bradley Cooper. 😂 Such is life. And this, this is love.
Who is else is waiting for their BRADLEY or IDRIS? No rush hun!
Like the title of Sefi Atta’s debut novel : EVERYTHING GOOD WILL COME!
